Removed "Generic PnP Monitor" hoping that during the reboot the system would detect and attempt to go through the installation process and suggest a better driver.Ĥ. Re-installed the latest nVidia package hoping that the driver for my display would be included in the package. The third time they answered that having "Generic PnP Monitor" is just fine and that I can contact them again if I have any trouble with the monitor.Ģ. It attempted to install a graphic card driver that was older than what I have. The second time they provided me with a suite of drivers for my nVidia GeForce card (511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS). The first time they provided me with some kind of a driver that wouldn't even install. I noticed recently that the Monitor driver now is "Generic PnP Monitor" with very limited functions and parameters. I am quite confident that the Device Manager was listing a specific driver (which title included words "BrightVew" and "Widescreen") in the Monitor section originally. I actually only have the laptop LCD and 2 external monitors. These manifest as shown below: As I was trying to solve this yesterday, the system kept adding more of the 'Black' display icons to the Control Panel applet until I got up to 7 displays. It came with Vista Home Premium, and I installed Vista Ultimate upgrade. After that happened Device Manager showed 4 'Generic Non-PnP Monitors' and 1 'Generic PnP Monitor'. I have a fairly new HP Pavilion dv9500t CTO with 17.0" WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescreen Display (1680 x 1050).
